This concentration emphasises skills in writing and the critical appreciation of literature and the English language. Students will develop the skills necessary for careers that rely heavily on the ability to write critically, analytically, clearly, and persuasively. This concentration will prove useful to students who wish to further their studies in English Literature, Linguistics, Journalism, Media, Communications, and Law.

Programme Goals

Produce and communicate clear and effective arguments and ideas formed independently.

Demonstrate the ability to critique literary texts from multiple perspectives.

Develop an appreciation and understanding of literature’s personal, cultural, and historical significance.

Explicate a piece of literature and deconstruct the use of craft elements specific to certain genres of writing.

Demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical and systematic framework used for the study of language.

Demonstrate an understanding of literary forms through studying the elements, structures, and characteristics of different types of literature.
