HLSCC HOSTS ANNUAL CAREER FAIR ALONG WITH A SERIES OF ACTIVITIES TO EXPOSE STUDENTS TO A VARIETY OF CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

HLSCC 2024 Career Fair

Tuesday, 12 March – Fulfilling its mission to provide and facilitate the delivery of services designed to meet the academic support, and personal and career development needs of students, the Student Success Centre will host its annual Career Fair on Thursday, 14 March 2024 along with the introduction of the Your Big Year event.

The HLSCC Career Fair, which will be hosted in the Learning Resource Centre from 1:00 through 4:00 p.m., is an opportunity for students and alumni seeking full-time employment and organisations interested in recruiting potential employees to do so under the sponsorship of the College.

Transfer Counsellor, Mrs. Denise Sargeant-James said that the purpose of the HLSCC Career Fair is to expose students to various career opportunities/pathways, explore internship opportunities, and apply for various employment vacancies.

Mrs. Sargeant-James said, “The HLSCC Career Fair also affords potential employees access to more job openings from various businesses under one roof.”

The Transfer Counsellor further explained that attendees can expect to interact one-on-one with employers/professionals of interest; practice and enhance their networking skills; gain awareness of organisations and employment positions; establish professional relationships and gather contact information from employers; discover a myriad of internship opportunities; and possibly receive an invitation for an on-campus or off-campus interview.

Participating businesses and organisations include: 284 Media, B+G Marine Services, GreenVI, Digicel, CCT, Hire BVI, Nanny Cay, BVI Electricity Corporation, BVI Ports Authority, BDO, Government of the Virgin Islands, Oil Nut Bay, KPMG. Horizon Trade Charters, RiteWay Food Markets, Bitter End Yacht Club, Nagico Insurance, Trident Trust, and many more.

Students are invited to stay ahead of their competition by submitting their resumes for review and register for the mock interviews sessions being facilitated on Wednesday, 13 March in the Learning Resource Centre’s Conference and Study Rooms by Student Success Coordinator, Mrs. Shanique Bartley-Alexander.

Ahead of the HLSCC Career Fair, students will unleash their potential with the introduction of the Your Big Year event today, Tuesday, 12th March in the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium from 10:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m.

The Your Big Year programme bridges academia to career through a skill-building and transformational experience for young people. Through interactive and engaging activities, young people learn critical life-long skills to help them see beyond their horizon and to succeed in any endeavour they pursue.

During this one day event, attendees will be taken through a number of activities that will give them the edge they need in their next interview or their next impromptu networking opportunity.

Activities have been tailored to allow for attendees to discover their personal brand, network and create a network, articulate who they are and how to apply this to a networking setting, learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and how they can make an impact, build an action plan to pursue their goals; and learn from industry professionals in a panel session.

Your Big Year works with young people from across 190 countries. By the end of this event, students will gain confidence in understanding who you are and which direction you want to go next. This event is powered by Digicel, Unite BVI and Rotary Club of Tortola.
