January
The Marine Professional Training Programme (MPT) saw its first cohort of 12 students complete the programme in the Fall of 2019.
Cohort 5 completed the programme in June 2023. With a near 90% employment success rate for graduates, this programme has been one of the largest successes of the College’s short course offerings in the Workforce Training Division. We expect this rate to continue to improve with Cohort 6 which is slated to begin in Fall 2023.

The Robert Mathavious Institute for Financial Services, the RMI, is the only professional qualification centre in the British Virgin Islands. Offering professional programmes since 2002, The Robert Mathavious Institute is a centre of excellence in education and training in the financial services industry.
Over the years, the RMI has conducted courses in individual subjects examined by professional organisations such as International Compliance Association, CGI – The Governance Institute, and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. The RMI is an ACCA Approved Learning Partner – Silver as well as an ACCA Approved CBE centre. The Robert Mathavious Institute is an CGI Registered Tuition Provider.

The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s 2050 Campus Master Plan was developed in consultation with local and internal stakeholders, and in concert with the institution’s 2027 Strategic Plan.
It is built upon the preexisting 2015–2025 Master Plan which was developed by the College along with personnel from the Town and Country Planning Department, Premier’s Office. The 2050 Campus Master Plan was formally approved by the Board of Governors in February 2022.

The Vision of the HLSCC Institute of Education is to be the centre for the facilitation of sustained teaching excellence in the Virgin Islands. The mission of the HLSCC Institute of Education is to develop effective educators who demonstrate progressive ideals, through research-driven innovative and reflective practice, that inculcate critical thinking skills and encourage capabilities for life-long learning in students.

The Centre for Professional Development (“the Centre”) is a sub-unit within the Workforce Training Division at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College that focuses on meeting the professional development and community education needs of the Territory and the wider Caribbean Region.
In 2019, the Centre underwent a rebranding and restructuring process aimed at effectively addressing the workforce training needs of the business sector and the wider community. The restructuring broadened the Centre’s offerings to include professional development programmes, community education, and customised training for the public and private sectors.

The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College is in the process of procuring a parcel of land on Virgin Gorda, which is destined to serve as the official site for the College’s future Virgin Gorda Campus. With thoughtful deliberation, the institution is diligently advancing towards the acquisition of property nestled within The Valley, paving the way for the ambitious development of the Virgin Gorda Campus.

The Virgin Islands Studies Programme was created in 1997 to provide more information and analysis about Virgin Islands history. In 2013, the programme was reorganised to become the Virgin Islands Studies Institute.
Today, the institute encourages and promotes research on Virgin Islands heritage. Our mission is to research and educate students and the wider community on historical and contemporary issues related to the social, political, economic and cultural life of Virgin Islanders.

At the turn of the century, The Culinary Arts Centre, which features state-of-the-art kitchens, was opened at HLSCC. By 2012, the College started offering a culinary degree programme.
The Centre’s aim is to provide high-quality training to individuals in the culinary arts and food and beverage management and service to support the needs of the local industry and the aspirations of residents. Students who successfully complete this programme will have a strong culinary foundation and management skills in front- and back-of-the-house operations.

The HLSCC College Classic race series is a community focused event that promotes movement for life through mass participation. It is open to all ages and allows opportunity for all to participate while casually walking, jogging or competitively running.
It attracts a diverse subset of the community and each year participants are awarded for consistency in participation. It is also an event that has provided numerous opportunities to support races for a cause.
The series began at the College’s Paraquita Bay campus on September 21st 1996 with an average of 22 persons. Shortly, thereafter races also began at the Virgin Gorda Centre. Currently, the Paraquita Bay races average over 100 persons while the Virgin Gorda races average about 30-40 persons.

In an effort to enhance student experience, and provide a sporting facility to be used by students and the wider community, the College invested in a 50’x105’ all-weather multi-purpose game court. Students and members of the community can now enjoy basketball, volleyball, tennis, and futsal on this surface.
November
The BVI Literary Festival (BVI Lit Fest) was founded in November 2021 as part of the Department of Culture’s Culture and Tourism Month activities and operates in collaboration with the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.
The BVI Lit Fest is an annual coming together of writers, poets, publishers, booksellers, and book lovers to celebrate the literary arts and the creative process through workshops, panel discussions, readings, signings, and launches. The festival includes a full programme with a mixture.

The Performing Arts Series is an initiative that was birthed out of the College’s commitment to elevating the arts in the local community. Each season of the series aims at showcasing the musical talents of locally based and internationally renowned jazz, classical, rhythm and blues, gospel, and reggae artists artist. Following a six-year hiatus, the College is looking forward to launching the 23rd season of the Performing Arts Series in the Fall of 2023.
